My Leap of Faith

While I was traveling in India many years ago, I had the opportunity to meet either His Holiness the Dalai Lama or Mata Amritanandamayi (also known as Amma the Hugging Saint). They were both holding space at the same time in different regions of India. I listened to my inner guru and chose to attend the Dalai Lama’s lectures rather than Mata Amritanandamayi’s. This turned out to be a choice with no regret. The Dalai Lama’s wisdom, humor and infectious laugh are, to this day, still with me. However, I yearned for Amma’s famous embrace for many years after that opportunity to be in her arms slipped by me. While I knew the time would come when we would meet, I had no idea that it would be in my

Reborn in Bangkok

I packed my bags not knowing that the adventure I was embarking on was going to be life-changing. This wasn’t my first holiday into foreign lands with the man that I loved. He and I were young, wild and free. Traveling was our norm. We would leave the city for months at a time to explore new cultures while simultaneously discovering ourselves. However, this particular trip allowed me to observe what was truly happening between he and me. Well, actually, I became aware of what I was unconsciously subjecting myself to and why. He and I were young, wild and free. The best word to describe the relationship that David* and I shared would have to be tumultuous. The three years we spent together we

Living With A Stranger

I was just about to put my laptop away because I felt uninspired as I sat on my flight back to San Diego, California after spending the holidays with my family. I thought to myself that it would be better for me to relax and color a mandala, which I conveniently packed in my carry-on. I reached into my bag and realized that my colored pencils were in the overhead compartment and I didn’t want to disturb those sitting next to me by jumping up to get them. Instead, I grabbed my yoga notebook and decided to see if there was something inside of it to inspire me. This notebook normally doesn’t travel with me but for some reason, as I left my home a couple of weeks ago, I decided to bring it along

A Mission of Love

There are these magical moments in life when it is as if a light is turned on in a dark room. At these times you begin to see the bigger picture of your life and start to understand your purpose, your divine purpose. What is truly important is for you to share the knowledge you hold within, to express the love you have in your heart and give it to those that need your understanding more than anything else. When you are open to another's pain you are able to find compassion in your heart and begin to comprehend their life journey. This, my friend, puts you on a mission of love that simultaneously triggers inner growth - a growth that can put life lessons into perspective for you to understand

Leave Your New Year Resolutions in 2015

It’s that time of year again when we begin to observe the good and the bad in our lives in order to improve ourselves for the future. We make new year resolutions desperately seeking change and happiness. While I am all about each of us becoming the best version of ourselves, I also believe that people tend to overextend themselves with unobtainable goals. This sets them up for later disappointment. Instead, let’s figure out how you can begin the new year with a smile on your face and excitement in your heart. Let’s begin to focus on the fun! When trying to make substantial changes in our lives we tend to focus on the negative areas that need improvement rather than the positive areas that
